Good bye, New York

The chapter of my life where I lived in a tiny 3bedroom apartment in Midtown Manhattan is over and I am still in disbelief at the life I have been living the past 4 months… Here it goes:

Something I am definitely going to miss…

This is a long one. Although I will miss the endless supply of unique restaurants, amazing shopping, and living away from Ohio, I will miss the people who made these 4 months so incredible. Faith, Melissa, and Tatum have become 3 of my best friends. I didn’t believe that it was true when people said you will eventually find your people in college until I met them. I can’t thank them enough for all the laughs, love, and support they have shown me. Oh and our rooftop view, I will miss that equally as much!! New York gave me a feeling of confidence I can’t describe. Walking those streets, knowing I worked so hard to be there, is a feeling I will remember forever. Everyday in New York was something different, you never knew what to expect.

A Grateful Heart

“If you want to find happiness, find gratitude.”

Lately I have felt an overwhelmingness of happiness. I feel like I am exactly where I am supposed to be and doing exactly what I am supposed to be doing in this exact moment. Do I have it all together? OF COURSE NOT. If I did, I prob wouldn’t have gotten into a random car thinking it was my uber. Yeah, face palm.

I am realizing that my happiness is stemming from my grateful heart. How can you be happy if you do not appreciate what you have been given? How can you be happy if you are not content with where you are?

Every Monday morning I take time to reflect on what and who I am grateful for. This reminds me of all the reasons I have to be happy and also helps me to live out my gratefulness.

I recently watched the “Picture Me” documentary by American fashion model, Sara Ziff. This documentary showed her experience in the fashion industry as a model. I was inspired by her handwork and determination to make it in the competitive industry. I was not shocked when I heard her stories of being treated poorly and overworked, and I was even more uninspired to hear of the sexual harassment stories that are involved in some model’s runway castings. This documentary made almost feel bad about going into an industry that almost supports this lifestyle until I realized that I am capable of making a difference wherever I end up working one day. I believe this documentary is opening the eyes of a lot of workers in the fashion world and changing their opinions on how to treat people in general, rather than just the models.

I was very excited to discover Sara stared an organization called “The Model Alliance” in 2012. At first their goal was to give models a voice in their work. They now also aim to promote fair treatment, equal opportunity, and more sustainable practices in the fashion industry, from the runway to the factory floor.

Three weeks ago the New York Times published an investigative article about the DECADES of sexual harassment allegations against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. Every sense then, women in every work industry, most even working in the Capital, are coming forward to say “Me Too”.

I am proud of these women for taking the courage to come forward as I think it will help show society how big of an issue sexual harassment is.

PLAYING THE PART | PRODUCTION MANAGER

The production manager at a magazine is the boss who manages all the inputs from editorial, advertising, and art departments that piece together a coordinated, wholesome, magazine. This is a very demanding job and requires the production manager to “speak content”. They need to know everything about the magazine and need to be highly skilled at knowing which content would work well with making the magazine coordinated.

My Global Fashion Week Experience

The month of fashion has officially come and gone, leaving me crazy inspired!! Paris Fashion Week ended the month of fashion last week. We saw designers like Céline, Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton, and Chanel show their S/S 2018 collections. Although I appreciate every designer, my favorite collection was Céline’s.

News Worthy Fashion

This past weekend at Paris Fashion Week, Crocs made an appearance on the well-known, luxury brand Balenciaga’s runway.

The Crocs were 10cm tall and were bedazzled in Bakenciaga gibbits. This collaboration takes Crocs to a whole new level. Will Crocs not only be practical, comfy, and unbreakable but also fashionable as well?

Designer Demna Gavasalia explained backstage that he believes the shoe is very modern and that he was drawn to them because of the way they were manufactured.”It’s a very innovative shoe. It’s light, it’s a one-piece foam mould and to me these kind of techniques and working with these kind of materials is very Balenciaga,” he said.
